A total of 43 youth participated in a coding contest bootcamp conducted from 30th May to 3rd June 2022 to mark Africa Science Week. The event in Koneta Hub Juba brought together mainly tech enthusiasts from different tech companies as well as students and researchers from the school of Computer Science and Information Technology in the University of Juba and other academic Institutions in Juba, South Sudan.

The Coding Contest in Java bootcamp aimed at helping programmers in South Sudan to improve their coding skills through hands-on practice training and mentorship and to enable them to use the acquired skills to develop innovative software products and services. This program was initiated and run by Coding Mentorship Initiative, a program of Bridging the Gap Organization and implemented in partnership with Koneta Hub in South Sudan to commemorate the Africa Science Week. The program was sponsored by Next Einstein Forum (NEF), an initiative of Africa Institute for Mathematical Science (AIMS)

The Participants were encouraged to come with their own laptops to give them the freedom of practicing during their free times. However, Koneta Hub was able to supply laptop computers for those without computers during the sessions. The training session covered introduction to coding, history of Java, Environmental setting, basic syntax of Java and program execution.

On the last day of the program, participants were able to participate in coding contest. Participants were divided into groups to encourage team work, each consisting of two members. Each group was given two problem statements to solve using coding in Java. Assessment was done based on which group was able to finish coding the two problem statements given to them. Speed of coding was used as the most important factor for determining the best groups.

The first four winning groups were gifted with t-shirts and other valuables. All the participants were awarded certificates of participation in the coding contest.
